The legend of Robin Hood has had many tellings and retellings over the years. The basic story most people know is of an outlaw in Sherwood Forest who eased the hardship of local people by robbing the rich to give to the poor. The legend varies as to whether Robin was a nobleman or not. Some of the best known characters did not appear in all the stories and there has been debate whether Robin was a man of Sherwood or hailed from Yorkshire.
