18 ways to save at Walmart

Walmart is the world’s largest physical retailer, which means you’ve probably shopped there at one point or another. If you are a regular Walmart shopper, you should save some money when you go there.
In this article, I’m going to share some buying techniques that save me money when shopping from Walmart. I also used money expert Clark Howard’s Facebook fan knowledge to get their personal savings tips.
How do I get a Walmart discount?
The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer prides itself on beating the prices of its competitors. So shopping at Walmart is definitely a way to keep more money in your pocket.
But it’s time to talk about strategy. Let’s take a look at some ways to save even more when shopping at Walmart.
1. Use Walmart coupons
One of the easiest ways to save money at Walmart is to use a coupon to get a discount. Walmart.com Coupons Page shows what’s on sale at your local store.
If you click on an item it will show how much you can save.
2. Use the refund apps
You can save money at Walmart by using refund apps. One of Team Clark’s favorites is Ibotta, who helps you turn grocery receipts into cash.
Rakuten is an alternative to Ibotta to save more at Walmart.
3. Download the Walmart app
I downloaded the Walmart app (available for Android and ios) over a year ago and used it to find items for sale. Here are some features of the app that can save you money:
Quick Family Meals
One feature that I like is the Quick Family Meals category in the Walmart app. Here it shows you how much money you are going to spend on a meal to feed multiple people.

Spotlight on savings
The Savings Spotlight section of the app highlights top items for sale and products tagged as Restorations, which are selected products that have been discounted to a previous price.

4. Scan the weekly ad

from Walmart.com Weekly Announcement that’s exactly what it sounds like: it highlights items that will be on sale in the next seven days, and you can customize it to see what’s on sale at the Walmart closest to you.
5. Get free delivery in 2 days
Walmart offers free two-day delivery on orders over $ 35. The strategy here is to order multiple items at once to hit the $ 35 threshold. (Note that not all items are eligible.)
6. Use Walmart Pickup
With Walmart Pickup, you can order groceries and other items online and pick them up in front of the store. It can certainly save you time, but it can also save you money: if you stay in your car, it is much more difficult to fall prey to impulse purchases.
If you don’t have a Walmart nearby, you can have your goods delivered to your local FedEx office.
7. Know the price match guarantee
Savvy shoppers can get the lowest price by comparing Walmart’s in-store prices to Walmart.com. For in-store items, Walmart says it will match cheaper prices found on their website (but it doesn’t work the other way around).
And if you find a price at another online retailer that is cheaper than Walmart.com, the store says it will match that price if it has identical products in stock.
8. Get $ 4 prescriptions
Walmart is one of the many retailers that offer $ 4 prescriptions. Walmart’s drugstore doesn’t have a wide variety of drugs for that low price, but if you need any of the included drugs, it’s hard to beat $ 4!
See Walmart’s $ 4 prescription list.
9. Buy refurbished electronics
You can save a lot of money on laptops, TVs, and other electronics by purchasing from Walmart’s Refurbished Collection.
The good thing is that these products come with a 90 day limited warranty. Explore Certified Refurbished Electronics From Walmart.
10. Subscribe to Walmart +
Walmart + is the retailer’s Amazon Prime-style subscription service. Subscribers can get fuel discounts, unlimited delivery and more.
Walmart + membership costs $ 98 per year or $ 12.95 per month, but there is a 15-day free trial. Learn more about Walmart +.
11. Buy the Great Value brand

The Walmart store brand is called “Great Value” – and it’s not just a name. High-value items are traditionally less expensive than many branded items.
For example, this 40 oz jar of Jiffy Creamy Peanut Butter is $ 5.78 at Walmart.com and roughly the same price at similar retailers. the Great Value version of the same product is $ 2.77 at the time of this writing.
12. Know when to shop
Deciding when to shop is more than just beating the crowd. To take advantage of huge sales at Walmart, plan your shopping around the Christmas holidays or similar times of the year.
Amazon Prime Day is another big day for sales at Walmart.
13. Use the Walmart Rewards Card
Reward credit cards continue to pay dividends long after you leave the store. The Capital One Walmart Rewards card offers 5% cash back on online purchases. Here’s what you need to know.
14. Visit ClarkDeals.com
Walmart may be known for its low prices, but not everything is the best deal you can find. Our team at Clark Deals searches the web for the best discounts and sales at Walmart so you know when you get a deal.
Go here to see the best Walmart deals from the Clark team and subscribe to the ClarkDeals newsletter to get great deals in your inbox every day.
15. Select markdown items
Christophe, one of Clark’s fans on Facebook, says, “Buy fresh produce (meat, fresh produce, bakery, cold cuts), be there early.” Company policy is a yellow, obsolete label, markdowns must be completed by 8:00 am. Their markdowns from the CVP Customer Value Program are typically around 30% less than the original price. If it’s already a Rollback item, you get a really good deal.
16. Check store prices vs. online prices
Pamela from Facebook says, âCheck Walmart’s price online before an in-store purchase. ⦠Saved $ 7 on a toaster doing this.
Chelsea, a member of Team Clark, explains that an easy way to compare Walmart in-store prices against online prices is to use the barcode scanner in the Walmart app.
17. Comparison shop
Susan from Facebook says, âWhen ordering a non-food item online, take the time to browse through multiple pages. They often have the same item sold by different sellers at very different prices.
18. Scan clearance items
Facebook’s Craig says, âScan all clearance items in the Walmart app, they are usually considerably less than the already cleared price. “
Final thoughts
Of all the ways to save listed here, it’s clear that shopping at Walmart can help you keep some more of your money in your pocket. If you put these savings tips into practice for an extended period of time, you could save quite a bit of money.
