Fidelity ADT arrests suspected hijackers

On the evening of March 17, Fidelity received a report of a hijacked truck on R59 via social media.
Fidelity South and East Joburg Region’s Specialized Response Unit (SIU), with assistance from the Safe Driving Operations team, responded to the message and arranged a search with the trucking company of the vehicle.
Jacqui Moloi, spokesperson for Fidelity ADT, said: ‘Coordinates led the team to an area in Daleside, Randvaal where a search was being carried out. During the search, the Fidelity team, the tracking company and Midvaal law enforcement officers found the trailer in a residential area.
“Three suspects were found with the trailer with its load of steel rods. The team successfully apprehended the suspects. The suspects were then handed over to Kliprivier SAPS who took both the truck and trailer and a truck hijacking and possession of stolen property case has been opened for further investigation.
The driver of the truck was found tied up inside the truck not far from where the trailer was.
Marius Greeff of Fidelity ADT SIU, who was also at the scene, said: “Kudos to all parties involved for their quick response to the incident and the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the truck and trailer with its full charge still intact.
“This close collaboration with SAPS, CPF, tracking companies and security companies once again underlines the importance of all stakeholders working together to fight crime. We will continue to work together to send a message strong that anarchy will not be tolerated.
The suspects have been detained by Kliprivier SAPS for further investigation.
