ST. LOUIS – Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov made his 15th straight appearance Thursday and he could be called upon to complete Colorado’s back-to-back streak with a trip on Friday when the Nashville Predators visit the Pepsi Center.

Avs coach Jared Bednar has two options on Friday against the Western Conference leaders Preds: a tired Varlamov or rookie Spencer Martin, the latter of whom is fourth in the organizational standings and has not played. only three games in the NHL and none this season.

Colorado have two other goaltenders on the non-active roster, but Jonathan Bernier and Andrew Hammond have not been healed of head injuries, Bednar said.

The coach said he and his staff would assess the situation after Thursday’s game. The Avs won’t return to Denver until early Friday morning and they won’t have a morning skate at the Pepsi Center.

Nashville also has a streak of consecutive nights, playing in Arizona on Thursday.

House of horror. The Avalanche’s recent record against the St. Louis Blues has been lousy, especially at the Scottrade Center, where the playoff contending teams met on Thursday.

The Blues came 3-0 against Colorado this season, had four straight series wins and had points in the previous 15 games (12-0-3). St. Louis was on a five-game winning streak against the Avs at the Scottrade Center, where he had won 13 of the last 15 games (13-2-0).

“It’s just one of those tough buildings to play in, and obviously they had some good teams,” Avs defenseman Tyson Barrie said after early morning practice Thursday. “But at this point, we don’t even think about it. We’re at a different stage in our game, at a different stage in our year. We are a different team.

Footnotes. Lakewood goaltender Nicole Hensley and the United States Women’s Olympic Team presented the ceremonial puck. She played at nearby Lindenwood University and set the all-time record in NCAA women’s history. … Blues defenseman Joel Edmondson returned to the lineup on Thursday after missing 13 games with a broken arm – an injury he sustained while blocking a shot against the Avs on February 8. … The Avs entered Thursday after producing points in eight consecutive games (5-0-3) and 10 of their previous 11 (6-1-4). They had an eight-game power-play streak at Scottrade Center, where they had not scored with a man advantage in the previous eight games. St. Louis had killed 38 of his last 40 home penalties against the Avs. “It’s a tough building to score, so once you get the advantage of a man you really have to capitalize,” said Barrie.

NASHVILLE, COLORADO, 7 p.m. Friday, ALT, 950 p.m.

Spotlight on: Viktor Arvidsson. The Predators leading scorer netted one of two shorthanded goals in the 3-1 win over Winnipeg on Tuesday, which extended Nashville’s lead in the Central Division and tied Tampa Bay for the 100-plus. points in the NHL. Arvidsson, 24, is the jewel of the 2014 draft class. He was selected in the fourth round (112 overall) but has gone on to become one of the league’s top scorers. He matched compatriot Filip Forsberg for a team-high 31 goals last season and currently leads the Preds with 26. 5-foot-9 Arvidsson is in his third full season in the NHL.
